Functional Testing

WHAT ARE FUNCTIONAL LAB TESTS?

Functional Lab Tests are comprehensive tests that are not generally run in traditional doctors' offices. They are tests that you can easily do in the comfort of your own home, as they typically test saliva, urine and stool.

These tests are not used to diagnose disease, but to uncover hidden health trends, nutritional deficiencies and imbalances in the body, assisting us to get to the root cause of your symptoms.

Functional testing is like the bridge between the doctors tests for disease and self care. We are looking for trends to catch your health before it gets to the disease process, so that your body has a chance to heal itself.

As, we know the body is incredibly intelligent and when given what it needs, it will heal itself. This is why we use natural methods to allow the body to come back into balance.

The Top Three Functional Lab Tests I use with my clients are:

  • The Hair Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
  • The GI Map Stool Test
  • The Dutch Complete Hormone Test

What do these tests show? Well, the core foundational elements to your health are based around the minerals in your body, how you detox, your hormonal balance and how healthy your gut is.

When any of these areas are off they can cause night sweats, fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety and insomnia etc. Can you see how a lot of these symptoms overlap with those of menopause?  You see not all symptoms are from declining hormones.

For example, your adrenal health is so important in menopause, because the body relies on your adrenals to produce oestrogen when the ovaries shut down. If you are burntout and drained this will cause hormonal imbalance and symptoms.

Also, many women take calcium supplements for bone health, but if you are not utilising your calcium properly in the body, that calcium could be collating in tissues and joints and not going into the bones.

Hair Mineral Analysis Test (HTMA)

The HTMA Test focuses on your mineral levels and heavy metal toxicity. It also gives us clues to whether you are a fast or slow detoxifier. This is important to understand because mineral imbalance & a build up of toxins can cause so many symptoms like fatigue, headaches, depression, brain fog.

GI Map Stool Test

GI Map Stool Test-  The health of your gut is so important. Because it is where you take in and assimilate all your vitamins and minerals. It is where around 80% of your happy hormone serotonin is made and the balance of bacteria in the gut has been shown to affect weight loss and other health areas.

Testing the gut can identify worms, parasites, pathogens, H Pylori, bacterial levels & the general health of the gut. Showing us inflammation levels, the level of the immune system in the gut, and if your are producing optimal levels of digestive enzymes, enabling you to break down your food and take in the necessary levels of vitamins and minerals you need to support the body in optimal health.

If your gut is not balanced and healthy you may experience, fatigue, joint pain, gas, bloating, IBS symptoms, constipation, indigestion, depression etc.

Dutch Hormone Test

Dutch Hormone Testing - You get a complete picture of your adrenals, hormones and the detoxification pathways (phase 1 & 2)

Hormonal imbalances can cause, weight gain, low labido, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, mood swings, depression and many other symptoms.

When we have our full optimal health and vitality, we can take on the world and this is where functional lab testing comes into its own. It helps us identify why you are not feeling like you anymore.
